The basic idea is "something is Adj-er than something else".
The key word is 比 bǐ, literally "compared with, than".

中国的历史比美国长。 Zhōngguó de lìshǐ bǐ Měiguó cháng.
'China has a longer history than the United States.'

玛丽的汉语比大卫好。 Mǎlì de hànyǔ bǐ Dàwèi hǎo.
'Mary’s Mandarin is better than David's.'

她比你大。 Tā bǐ nǐ dà.
‘She is older than you.'


我妈妈做的菜比餐馆的好吃。 Wǒ māma zuò de cài bǐ cānguǎn de hǎochī.
'My mother’s cooking is more delicious than the restaurant's.'

伦敦的夏天比北京凉爽。 Lúndūn de xiàtiān bǐ Běijīng liángshuǎng.
'Summer is cooler in London than in Beijing.'

学习汉语比学习英语难。 Xuéxí hànyǔ bi xuéxí yīngyǔ nán.
'Learning Chinese is more difficult than learning English.'
