Vocab and notes

喂 wéi ‘hello (on the phone)'. Note that it is pronounced wèi when it means 'hey’ (calling someone).
请问(問) qǐng wèn ‘may I ask, excuse me’
请讲(講) qǐng jiǎng. Note that the Chinese says ‘please speak’, where English says ‘speaking’.

Confirming an appointment by telephone

Mr Smith: Hello.
Miss Wang: Hello, is that Mr Smith?
Mr Smith: Yes, speaking.
Miss Wang: Hello, I’m Mr Song’s assistant.
Mr Smith: Oh, hello.
Miss Wang: I’m calling to confirm the time of your and Mr Song’s meeting. Mr Song is free next Wednesday. So the meeting time is 7th August 2pm, is that right?
Mr Smith: That’s right.
Miss Wang: All right. I’ll arrange that time for you.
Mr Smith: Thank you.
Miss Wang: You are welcome. You can contact me if there is any problem.
Mr Smith: All right, thank you.
Miss Wang: Not at all. Do you have any other requirements?
Mr Smith: No, I haven’t.
Miss Wang: See you next week, then.
Mr Smith: See you next week. Goodbye.
