Students appreciate, and increasingly expect, consistent and well-considered use of online learning. This guidance document sets out the minimum expectations, or baseline, for e-learning provision for all taught programmes and modules at UCL, with a focus on Moodle.

The original Baseline was developed after wide consultation on best UCL practice and was endorsed by Academic Committee in September 2011. The Baseline is reviewed periodically. The 2016 version is a product of merging the UCL Moodle Baseline with the Student Minimum Entitlement to On-Line Support from the Institute of Education. The 2019 update reflects changes to the legal environment regarding accessibility, changes in Moodle, and some changes to wording to improve clarity.

The current policy relating to the E-Learning Baseline forms part of Chapter 11 of the Academic Manual.
